Welcome to the "History" of  Old St. Paul's.  This page is an ongoing  project. Due to the extensive and very interesting  events, it will be changed and or added to as one might  read a book; chapter by chapter.  I hope you enjoy reading the instalments as much as I enjoy  adding "new chapters".

Our Historic Church

Picture
The year is 1834.
King William is on the throne of England and the Diocese of Huron has not yet been formed.
In the "New World" a small community is just beginning to emerge  when veterans from the Napoleonic War are given land grants in the area.  Admiral Henry Vansittart, the second son of a  noble family, is planning to take possession of his grant and to bring his family to this new world of opportunity.
Being reluctant to bring his family to a place that is not yet established, he sends out Captain Andrew Drew,  Royal Navy to make preparations, giving him money to build an Anglican Church. (Church of England.)
Moving forward into the new world, "St. Paul's Church" awaits the Vansittart family. It contains "box" pews and is of a colonial architecture reminiscent of the Williamsburg style, having been built in the same era.
